Kanegon in Ultraman Z
During night shift, after Haruki Natsukawa told Yoko Nakashima to take care on her trip, Haruki heard a strange sound come from a nearby room, causing him to investigate. While looking around, Haruki turned to see a small monster had appeared behind him. To his surprise, the monster spoke, revealing that it was famished, and then it began to sniff the air around it and discovered Haruki's Ultra Medals. Haruki told the monster to stay back, however, the monster leaped forward and after a brief hustle, managed to steal Haruki's Z Holder and swallowed the medals. The monster suddenly had visions of the Ultra Medals' history and usage, gaining the knowledge of Ultraman Z and his transformations.
The monster then greeted Haruki, revealing its name to be Kanegon and that he feeds on money. Shocked, Haruki then told Kanegon that what the monster had just ate were medals, not coins, and he then tried to make Kanegon spit them out. Haruki tried multiple ways to get his Ultra Medals out of Kanegon: sucking them out with a vacuum, bringing them out via a magnet, and yoga. After all of Haruki's attempts failed, Kanegon questioned Haruki if the coins he just ate were important. Haruki then exclaimed that they were not coins, they were Ultra Medals that were given to him by Z-san. Haruki was shocked when Kanegon asked if he was referring to Ultraman Z, telling Haruki that when he ate the medals he saw Haruki's bonds with the Ultra. Haruki then told Kanegon about how he and Ultraman Z bonded together and transformed into Ultraman Z Alpha Edge to defeat Genegarg. After hearing this, Kanegon suddenly felt sick and spat out three of the Ultra Medals, specifically the ones that Haruki used to transform into Ultraman Z Alpha Edge.
Suddenly, Shouta Hebikura, who had heard Kanegon's sneezing, began to walk into the room, asking if someone was there. Haruki then tried to hide Kanegon and pretended it was him who had sneezed. Shouta then saw Kanegon and asked Haruki what it was. Haruki lied and told him that the monster was a sleeping bag, and drug Kanegon away into another room. Once in the room, Kanegon told Haruki that he was hungry and revealed that if his coin counter dropped to zero, he would stop moving. Haruki then went to a safe, grabbed a jar of coins and tried to give the famished monster one coin. However, Kanegon snatched the whole jar instead and began to eat all of the coins. Haruki then realized that Kanegon might digest the remaining Ultra Medals and told Kanegon about Ultraman Z Beta Smash, with Kanegon mistaking the form for "the Red Guy." After this, Haruki heard the doorbell ring and shoved Kanegon behind a counter as Yuka Ota walked in the room. Kanegon suddenly began to feel sick again, with Haruki realizing if Yuka discovered Kanegon, she would want to study and dissect the coin monster. Once Kanegon sneezed out the Beta Smash medals toward Yuka, Haruki leaped out to grab them in hopes to distract her. While Yuka was busy lecturing Haruki about her discoveries on dissecting Grigio Raiden, Kanegon wondered away from the counter. Haruki then whispered to the monster, telling him to go back.
After Yuka left, Kanegon began to pretend that he was Ultraman Z, saying that he wanted to fight monsters as well. Haruki then explained to Kanegon that battling monsters was not simple, that they fight monsters to keep peace and protect people. He then told the coin monster about the two Red Kings and how they were simply protecting their egg. Kanegon told Haruki he can feel that the Ultra Medals trusted him. At this, Haruki spoke about Ultraman Z Gama Future. Suddenly, Kanegon felt sick once more and collapsed, seemingly dying. Before Haruki could mourn over the monster, Kanegon got up and rushed to the restroom, were the last three medals would exit the monster. Once at the street, Kanegon apologized to Haruki for the trouble he had caused and skipped away.

Kanegon was first seen watching Ghostron and Gronken battle. Once Ghostron killed Gronken, Ghostron eyed Kanegon, making the coin monster leave. He then saw Gokinezura sitting on a ledge. Kanegon tried to get the monster's attention by poking Gokinezura's back, however, Gokinezura did not respond. While wondering about, Kanegon saw Nokogilin and Zagoras fighting, Sartan admiring a flower and Sadolar sleeping on a rock. Kanegon sat on a hill and watched the clouds move away, revealing the bright sun. Suddenly, he heard the words "Reddo Arrow." Kanegon was stabbed by Redman's Red Arrow and dropped dead. The next thing Kanegon knew, he was alive again, with his wound gone. He saw Ghostron and Gronken battling again, this time with Gronken killing Ghostron. Kanegon wondered around, seeing Gokinezura, Nokogilin, Zagoras, Sartan and Sadolar once more. Once the sun appeared, Redman killed Kanegon again with his Red Arrow. This time loop repeated five more times, until Kanegon was as green as a zombie. After walking past the other kaiju, Kanegon sat on the hill once more. Redman appeared and prepared his Red Arrow and tossed it at Kanegon. This time, however, to Redman's suprise, the coin monster grabbed the arrow and turned to the monster hunter. After staring for a moment, the two turned away from each other, with Kanegon sitting back on the hill.

- Kanegon, alongside Goro, Peguila, Garamon/Pigmon and Goga all appear as silhouettes during the original Ultraman's opening credits.
- Kanegon's body is made entirely of copper and his mouth is a coin purse.[2]
- Kanegon was originally meant to appear in Ultra Q the Movie: Legend of the Stars, but was eventually dropped from the script.
- He was also planned to appear in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends the Movie, but was scrapped.
- In episode thirteen of Ultraman Z, while Haruki tells Kanegon about Ultraman Z Beta Smash, Kanegon mistakes the Ultra's form for "The Red Guy." This is most likely a reference to Redman, who in the Redman series battles Kanegon and killed him and Woo with his Red Arrow.
