Tsuburaya Wiki's name is a portmanteau of the words "Wiki," the concept which Tsuburaya Wiki is based on, and "Tsuburaya," which comes from the company Tsuburaya Productions, obviously referencing how Tsuburaya Wiki is an online encyclopedia primarily based on the Ultraman Series and the company's other work.

Tsuburaya Wiki was founded by user Kaiju4Ever on March 25th, 2017, focusing on the Ultraman Series and other work from Tsuburaya Productions. The site was founded with the intention of creating an Ultraman wiki that was more close to the policies of Wikizilla. Tsuburaya Wiki was revealed to Wikizilla on December 2, 2020. However, Tsuburaya Wiki had mixed reception with Wikizilla's admins, who deemed the site's objectives to ambitious. After the reveal, Kaiju4Ever finished his to-do-list and took a break during 2021.
